Watercolour and gum arabic on Whatman paper, watermarked J WHATMAN, the verso with the black ink Impey seal, lined in conservation paper, the number 22 written in ink at the upper left

Inscribed at lower left in Persian in nasta’liq:

Karundika derakht (‘Karonda tree’).  Faridi tuta. 

And in English:

Parrot of Frid (the Dervise) Female.  In the Collection of Lady Impey in Calcutta. Painted by Zain al-Din [in Persian] Native of Patna 1777
